The President’s Inclusive Excellence and Diversity Award Committee invites students, employees and alumni to submit nominations for the annual President’s Inclusive Excellence Awards to honor students, faculty, staff and alumni for significant achievements in advancing the University’s goals in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion. Nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday December 5th, 2022.
Nominee Categories and Eligibility Requirements
Faculty, including instructors, tenured and tenure-track (must be currently employed at NEIU)
Non-faculty staff, (must be currently employed at NEIU)
Students, including undergraduate and graduate (must be currently enrolled at NEIU)
Alumni (must have obtained an official degree from NEIU)
Nomination Requirements:
To nominate yourself or someone else, please upload the following documents to this google form no later than 11:59 p.m. on Monday December 5, 2022.
1. Nominator's Statement: The nominator must submit a supportive statement of the individual’s accomplishments and evidence of success in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). The more detailed the statement, the more competitive your submission will be. Statements should be no less than 500 words, double spaced at 12 point font, and no more than 750 words. The supporting statement should address the following questions:
a. What EDI activities, practices, initiatives, and/or organizations has the nominee participated in?
b. How has the nominee demonstrated longevity, consistency, breadth, depth, courage, leadership, and/or creativity in these EDI practices?
c. What has been the impact of the nominee's EDI practices (within NEIU and/or abroad)?
2. One letter of support (in addition to the nominator’s statement): The additional letter of support should address the selection criteria for this award (see questions to be answered in the nominator’s statement). The more detailed the statement, the more competitive your submission will be. Letters of support should be no less than 500 words, double spaced at 12 point font, and no more than 750 words.
3. Documents of Support [this is optional, but highly recommended for alumni]: Nominators may also upload documents related to equity, diversity and inclusion activities (resume, curriculum vitae, significant projects, website links) that will help the committee understand and assess the nominee’s accomplishments as described in the nominator’s statement and the letter of support.
Selection of Award Recipients
The President’s Inclusive Excellence Award selections will be based on an exemplary commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, as expressed through research and creative programming, teaching, mentoring, or curriculum transformation, professional service, and/or a combination of achievements in these areas.
The awards will be based on service, broadly defined, which may include service to NEIU, the local community and/or abroad (alumnus).
The awards will be based on an accumulated record of achievement in equity, diversity & inclusion, acts of services, projects, or events to build meaningful lives and vibrant communities.
