Fall 2022 Graduate Student Elective

Literacy Education is offering a course this Fall -- LTCY 514: Literacy Education for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students (CRN 18210) -- which would be a wonderful elective for graduate students interested in learning how to better support linguistically and/or culturally diverse students. It is all online.

In this class, students will explore various sociocultural issues, instructional approaches, and a wide range of materials and resources about teaching linguistically/culturally diverse students. At the end of the course, students will be able to incorporate their knowledge into the practices of their individual disciplines and professional contexts. The objectives of this course include:

  • Understanding foundational theories and research on diversity and multiculturalism in education
  • Exploring important issues regarding how diversity impacts language, literacy, and content instruction
  • Applying strategies to meet the needs of linguistically/culturally diverse students
  • Devising strategic plans to engage diverse family and community members and resources

Please pass this information to students who may be interested in this topic. If you have questions about this course, feel free to send them to Hsiao-Chin Kuo (HKuo@neiu.edu).
