Update on D2L Systemwide Disruption Issues

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and University Technology Services (UTS) wish to provide an update to the recent disruption in D2L services experienced over the past week.

The root of the issue lies in the code used to translate information from Banner, like student enrollments, into D2L. D2L underwent a major upgrade over the summer resulting in the problems we are currently encountering. University Technology Services (UTS) has been working tirelessly on correcting the code. Presently UTS appears to have stabilized the situation and restored access for the vast majority of students to their appropriate D2L course. If you still observe issues with a student not being able to access their D2L course, please refer to the following guidance:

If a student says they cannot see your course: Please ensure that it is activated on the Course Offering Information page.

If a student has been removed from your D2L classlist but is still enrolled in your course: Please confirm that they are still listed on your official NEIUport roster. If they are enrolled but still don't appear in D2L, send an email to ctl@neiu.edu with the complete course code (e.g. BIO_101_1_202310) and the netID or ID number of the student(s) involved.

If a student has dropped your course in NEIUport/Banner but is still appearing on your D2L classlist: Please confirm that the student does not appear on your roster in NEIUport. If they have successfully dropped the course, ask them to be patient while waiting for the changes to be reflected in D2L.

If you or a student receives a message that the D2L account has been deactivated: Email ctl@neiu.edu with your or the student's netID so we can reactivate your account. This includes students who lost access to their Summer 2022 course and are trying to fulfill the requirements to remove a grade of incomplete.

Please note: CTL may not be able to correct all situations but are continuing to work collaboratively with UTS to do so. Also, regardless of your current access to D2L, all of the content in your courses has been preserved.

Meanwhile, teaching and learning is at the core of what we do and we want to support you as best we can. Please refer to “Alternatives for Instructional Support When Navigating D2L System Wide Issues.” This document is created to aid you in using Google platform to assist students during this time, if you want a temporary alternative to D2L.

Thank you for your continued patience with this process.
